Founded in 1974 by George Mitchell resides on land that was originally the Grogan Cochran Lumber Company.  At inception The Woodlands consisted of 17,455 acres and today covers 28,000 forested acres in southern Montgomery County.  Mr. Mitchell’s original concept for The Woodlands was founded on “developing in harmony with nature” and still today The Woodlands continues that concept and plan.
